Proposed Cuts
in Medicare Advantage
Recently, Humana notified many of it's clients about the possible
effects of proposed healthcare legislation in Washington. Apparently, many liberals in congress became outraged that this information would be shared with seniors and
prefer that they remain in the dark about this issue. Democrats like Senator Baucus are
not living up to President Obama's committment to transparency.
The Department of Health and Human Services has launched a
punative investigation into Humana as a result of this company sharing information and updates concerning this
legislation to their clients. This suppression of freedon of expression by the government upon a company that
is appropriately attempting to keep it customers informed is inexcusable. This abuse of government
power and censorship cannot be tolerated
As a private citizen I will therefore use my right of freedom of speech and
expression to provide that information. I would hope they try to censor me. It would be a pleasure to have
Secretary Sebelius and many Senators undergo depositions under oath.
The mailer sent out
by Humana and censored by HHS contained the following comment that you need to know:
"While these programs need to be made more efficient, if the proposed funding cut
levels become law, millions of seniors and disabled individuals could lose many of the important benefits and
services that make Nedicare Advantage heal plans so valuable."
The Senate Finance Committee,
chaired by Senator Max Baucus will vote this week on a sweepinghealth care plan shich seeks to to expand
coverage and try to control costs.Medicare and Medicaid spending would be cut in this proposal by about $500
billion over 10 years. The Chairman says that would lead to greater efficiency, not reduced benefits.
This is difficult to imagine. First we have to be able to believe that the government has the will or the
capacity to do anything effeciently. Secondly we have to take the leap of faith and believe that we can
expand coverage and cut costs without decrealing quality or rationing care.
The one consistent thing that this
whole healthcare legislation debacle contains is the underlying thread:
"TRUST
ME"
Well no, we dont trust you! You have
destroyed most everything that you have touched and the only thing we have to show for it is more
government in our lives, higher taxes, less freedom, and distribution of wealth from the productive members of
society to those who live off the blood sweat and tears of others. Frankly, we are not going to take it any
more.
Note that Humana was ordered to immediately cease such mailings,
and even remove any related materials from its web site. HHS has treatened Humana with other
action.
Humana opposes the government option on grounds that it
would "undermine the coverage that is working today for millions of Americans".
